Collaborative works by Brandon Friend & Jason Douglas Griffin
curated by Janusz Jaworski
The NYC-based artist collaborative Gentleman’s Game will premier a new series of work titled Atlantic at 1155 Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan on Thursday, March 27. Sponsored by the arts nonprofit chashama, this stunning exhibition includes more than 30 large-scale works featuring the duo’s trademark mixed media and acrylics on canvas.
Gentleman’s Game is the partnership of artists Brandon Friend and Jason Douglas Griffin. Combining Friend’s signature imprinting technique and Griffin’s stylized street art aesthetic, Gentleman’s Game’s unique process of turn-based mark marking results in arresting pieces rich with depth and texture. This process employs various methodologies rooted in painting, printmaking, collage, and image transfer. Each mark on the canvas, whether unintentional or deliberate, forces the painting into a new context that is non-linear and shifting. The emergence of recognizable images or gestures is intended to provoke a sense of familiarity that echoes throughout the works. Gentleman’s Game’s singular aesthetic explores themes in pop culture and mythology, seamlessly fusing together their individual approaches to art making in a partnership founded on respect, trust, and fair play.
“Atlantic” is currently open to the public in the main atrium of 1155 Avenue of the Americas
